We Made It!

So, yesterday was a whirlwind of packing and last minute things, as usual. I've always been a last minute packer, and this trip was no different. As we were headed to the airport, I randomly realized I'd forgotten to pack my toothbrush. Isn't it bizarre how your brain suddenly recognizes those things? We were sitting there talking about some song on the radio, and it hit me. So I picked up another one and we headed to the airport...

Checking in we found out that our first flight was delayed by an hour, but that it could get moved up if we could get a sooner spot heading into Chicago. Luckily, it was moved up, our pilot was persistent. Apparently he wanted to get back to LA for the night. It was a fairly uneventful flight, not too incredibly much turbulence, but not the smoothest ever. Nothing is more beautiful with a bit of scariness than flying through some mild thunderstorms. Chicago was bustling and busy as usual, and our flight was even running on time. Big excitement. We boarded the plane, and then....the storm hit. Thunder, lightning, hail. It was actually pretty cozy curled up on the big jet, lazily turning through the pages of my new book, oblivious to the weather outside. If only there were more space on the plane, with like couches, or you know like my living room. :)

Eventually the storm subsided and we had a really smooth flight down to Texas. Loved it, if only I could have slept a teensy bit. So we landed and made our way to the baggage claim. By this point we were pretty tired, Dallas is an hour behind us so it felt like 1 am our time. Slowly the bags made their way up the carousel and onto the belt...and then there were no more bags. Ours somehow didn't make it. Lovely. So we made our way to the kiosks and filed the claims. It was definitely an adventure, we finally crashed around 12:45 am Texas time...it will be interesting to see how the rest of this trip plays out.
